A private organization, the Earthquake News and Research Center, has issued a warning about a potential major earthquake expected in Karachi this week.
During a press briefing, the center’s CEO, Muhammad Shehbaz Laghari, emphasized that the recent tremors in the city should be taken seriously. He predicted that a powerful quake could hit between Thursday night and Saturday night but noted that smaller shocks might reduce this risk.

Laghari defended his organization against criticism of spreading fear, stating their goal is to promote preparedness and early action. He added that despite facing resistance within Pakistan, they’ve received support and collaboration offers from international entities.
He also claimed that their center is the first in the world to issue early earthquake warnings.
This alert follows three consecutive days of tremors in Karachi — a first in the city’s history. Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider attributed the minor quakes to the Landhi Fault Region, which has no history of major seismic activity. Karachi also sits near the Thana Bula Khan fault, both of which remain active.
