Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken decisive action to tackle the ongoing disruptions in gas supply during the critical hours of sehri and iftar in Ramadan. Amid growing complaints from citizens, the prime minister directed gas authorities to ensure an uninterrupted supply during these peak times, following a late-night emergency meeting with senior officials from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL).
During the meeting, Express News reported that the prime minister pressed the gas companies to resolve the issues of low pressure and service disruptions. As a result, Sui Southern Gas Company announced a 10% increase in gas pressure during peak hours to improve the supply, particularly for households in affected regions.

Moreover, gas supply to areas located at the end of distribution networks will now begin 30 to 45 minutes earlier than usual to enhance pressure during sehri and iftar. To ensure real-time monitoring, SSGC established control rooms at both the head office and regional offices to address complaints swiftly. The control rooms will oversee daily supply situations, working on an emergency basis to resolve low-pressure issues.
SNGPL also pledged its commitment to the prime minister’s directives, assuring citizens of uninterrupted gas flow during these critical hours. Citizens facing disruptions have been urged to report any issues via the 1199 helpline for prompt resolution.
Despite these measures, several areas in Karachi continue to face difficulties due to gas shortages, particularly during iftar. Residents in neighborhoods such as Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, PIB Colony, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal have reported outages, causing inconvenience during meal preparation.
While SSGC has denied widespread outages, claiming that 95% of areas are receiving gas normally, the company acknowledged complaints from the remaining 5%. Residents remain frustrated, calling for swift and effective solutions during the holy month.
