Palestinian President Abbas Hails Gaza Ceasefire Amid Global Calls for Peace

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has hailed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a Gaza ceasefire, calling it a turning point that could end weeks of bloodshed and open the door to lasting peace.

The ceasefire deal includes the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the swift delivery of humanitarian aid, and a major prisoner exchange between the two sides.

Abbas described the agreement as a “historic opportunity” to achieve a long-awaited solution — the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He commended Trump’s role in brokering the deal, along with Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, for their diplomatic efforts, and lauded the courage and endurance of the Palestinian people amid immense hardship.

The Palestinian leader emphasized the urgency of implementing the agreement, ensuring immediate aid access, releasing prisoners, and beginning Gaza’s reconstruction. He reaffirmed that Gaza remains an integral part of Palestine and urged unity between Gaza and the West Bank under one national authority.

Abbas also warned against Israeli provocations at Masjid Al-Aqsa, urging the global community to prevent any moves that could derail peace.

“Today marks the dawn of a new era in the Middle East,” Abbas said, pledging to collaborate with international partners to secure lasting peace, justice, and dignity for the Palestinian people.
