Pre-Monsoon Alert: Hailstorms and Rain Expected in These Cities from Tomorrow

The Met Office has reported that moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are entering the upper and central regions of the country, with a westerly wave expected to approach northern areas on June 20.

Under this system:

Dust storms, rain with wind, and thunderstorms—along with isolated heavy rain or hail—are forecast in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Sargodha, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and D.I. Khan, from June 20 to 23, with intermittent breaks.

Similar weather, including rain, dust storms, and thunderstorms, is expected in parts of Balochistan (Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kalat) and southern Punjab (Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal) between June 21 and 23.

From June 22 to 24, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad in Sindh are also likely to experience dust storms and thunderstorms.

Advisories and Possible Impacts:

  • Strong winds, dust storms, and lightning may damage vulnerable structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, particularly in northern and central regions, including Islamabad.
  • Extremely hot weather is expected to ease during this period.
  • Farmers should plan agricultural activities accordingly.
  • The public, especially travelers and tourists, is advised to exercise caution during this weather spell.
  • There is a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad during the forecast period.
