Continuous heavy rainfall over the past hour has caused water levels in Nullah Leh to rise, prompting authorities to issue a pre-alert for the flood-prone areas of Katarian and Gowalmandi.
Currently, the water level in Nullah Leh stands at 15.5 feet in Katarian and 8.75 feet in Gowalmandi. Officials have warned that if the water levels reach 15.7 feet in Katarian and 14.1 feet in Gowalmandi, a formal flood alert will be issued.
The rainfall has led to 36.7mm of rain being recorded across the twin cities, with certain areas seeing higher amounts. Specifically, 42mm was recorded in Golra, 27mm in Bokra, and 35mm at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) station. Shamsabad experienced the heaviest rainfall at 52mm, while Kachehry recorded 20mm.

Meanwhile, Lahore has also seen light to heavy rain across different areas, including Shadman, China Chowk, Lawrence Road, Jail Road, Shah Jamal, Qurtaba Chowk, Davies Road, Mall Road, Gulberg, Firdous Market, and Barkat Market.
In response, the Punjab chief minister has issued instructions to ensure the city’s drainage systems function properly. The managing director of WASA Lahore has directed staff and machinery at the Monsoon Emergency Camp to remain on high alert.
WASA has been tasked with ensuring that all screens at disposal stations remain clean and that main highways and underpasses are cleared of water. All officers and staff have been ordered to be present in the field to manage the situation as it evolves.
Authorities in both Rawalpindi/Islamabad and Lahore are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to take further action if water levels continue to rise or if heavy rain persists.
