PRA Takes Action Against Hotels And Restaurants For Tax Invoice Violations

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has launched a strict campaign targeting hotels and restaurants for tax invoice violations in major cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, and Multan. The initiative aims to increase compliance and ensure proper documentation of sales.

According to a PRA spokesperson, inspection teams have fined several businesses for failing to issue sales tax invoices and not using the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (E-IMS). Warning notices were also served to establishments found in breach of E-IMS regulations. These measures are part of a broader effort to curb tax invoice violations and promote transparency in the service sector.

In Multan, PRA officials met with representatives of the Marriage Halls and Marquees Association at the Commissioner’s office. The discussions focused on implementing E-IMS, ensuring timely tax payments, and facilitating registration for new businesses. Association members expressed their willingness to cooperate but highlighted challenges due to reduced business activity following recent floods. The PRA assured stakeholders of continued support while emphasizing the importance of compliance to strengthen the provincial tax system.

Officials explained that monitoring and penalizing non-compliance is crucial to creating a transparent business environment. Hotels and restaurants must issue proper invoices for all transactions to avoid penalties. The PRA stressed that adhering to tax regulations benefits both businesses and the overall economy.

Experts note that enforcing E-IMS and addressing tax invoice violations can improve accountability and revenue collection in Punjab. The campaign also aims to educate business owners about the importance of maintaining accurate records.
