Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Sunday urged that local body elections be held in Punjab, questioning why the province has yet to conduct polls unlike other regions.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, he said the PPP’s stance is straightforward: Punjab must hold local government elections. He noted that despite repeated deadlines, the polls have not taken place.
Memon also accused the Punjab government of running a one-sided campaign against the PPP and the Sindh government. He cautioned that efforts to create political rifts would not succeed, urging constructive dialogue with the federation instead of confrontation.
He further called on the federal government to engage international organisations and nations responsible for climate change to assist Pakistan’s flood-hit communities, echoing PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s position.
Highlighting Sindh’s relief efforts, Memon pointed to the provincial housing programme, under which 2.1 million houses are being built for flood victims. He criticised political opponents for spreading division and urged them to refrain from fueling hatred, stressing that the PPP remains focused on helping the poor.
