Life-Saving Medicines Stable in Price Despite Global Cost Pressures

The Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) has confirmed that prices of essential medicines have not increased. This includes insulin and other life-saving drugs.

In a statement, the PPMA said that supplies of all major medicines remain stable across the country. The association rejected concerns about shortages or recent price hikes, emphasizing that life-saving drugs continue to be sold under government price controls.

Rising production costs, including higher petrol, diesel, and imported raw material prices, have not affected the pricing of essential medicines. The PPMA stressed that insulin and other critical drugs remain fully accessible to patients nationwide.

Antibiotics, cardiac medications, blood pressure treatments, and diabetes medicines are all available without interruption. Vaccine distribution has also continued smoothly, ensuring that public health needs are met.

Nearly 90% of the medicines used in Pakistan are locally manufactured. Local production helps maintain supply stability despite global market challenges and rising production expenses. Pharmaceutical companies report holding sufficient stocks of raw materials and finished products to meet ongoing demand.

The association noted that some shortages of advanced treatments, including high-end cancer medicines, vaccines, and immunoglobulins, are due to delays in official government price notifications. Faster approval of such prices would improve access to specialized medicines.

PPMA also urged media outlets and the public to avoid spreading unverified reports of shortages or price hikes. The body reassured citizens that essential medicines remain available, affordable, and accessible nationwide.
