Pakistan Petroleum Ltd Secures Conditional Nod For Balochistan Exploration

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has received conditional approval from the Government of Balochistan for a new mineral exploration license. The license, identified as EL-331, covers exploration for precious and base metals, along with associated minerals, in District Chagai, Balochistan.

According to a notice shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the approval is subject to the company meeting all legal, regulatory, and procedural requirements. Once PPL fulfills these conditions, the license will be finalized, allowing the company to begin exploration activities in the area.

PPL stated that this step aligns with its strategy to diversify beyond oil and gas. The company aims to explore opportunities in the mineral sector to ensure long-term business sustainability and growth. The exploration project in Balochistan reflects PPL’s broader commitment to contribute to Pakistan’s resource development and strengthen its footprint in the country’s mining industry.

The Government of Balochistan has been encouraging responsible mineral exploration to unlock the province’s vast resource potential. The region of Chagai, where the license is located, is already known for its world-class copper and gold deposits, including the Reko Diq and Saindak projects.

Officials see this approval as another positive sign for investment in the province’s mineral-rich areas. It highlights growing confidence in the potential of Balochistan to become a major contributor to Pakistan’s mining and mineral exports.

PPL also assured that all exploration activities will be conducted in compliance with environmental and safety standards. The company emphasized that it remains focused on sustainable development and community engagement in the regions where it operates.
