Powerful earthquake hit California, Leaves 2 dead and thousands without electricity

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Early on Tuesday, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck northern California, knocking out electricity for thousands of people.A city in coastal Humboldt County named Ferndale is about 12 kilometres (7.45 miles) west-southwest of the earthquake’s epicentre. According to the United States Geological Survey, it was at a depth of approximately 16.1 kilometres (10 miles) (USGS).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][rs_space lg_device=”30″ md_device=”” sm_device=”” xs_device=””][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]The USGS reported that the earthquake hit the city at roughly 2:34 am (1034 GMT).

According to CNN, the majority of homes and businesses in Humboldt County were without electricity early on Tuesday.

According to utility tracker PowerOutage.us, out of the 99,000 consumers it has tracked in the county, over 60,000 outages have been reported.

At least a dozen people were injured, and two others died from “medical emergencies” that occurred during or just after the quake, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
