Portuguese Guitar Maestro Pedro Jóia Mesmerizes Pakistani Audience in Cross-Cultural Musical Masterclass

Renowned Portuguese guitarist and composer Pedro Jóia captivated a Pakistani audience with a spellbinding blend of jazz, flamenco, and Fado during an intimate masterclass session in Lahore. In a dimly lit room resonating with soulful strings and stories, Jóia shared his musical journey—from his transformative travels through Andalusia, Spain, to private lessons with his flamenco mentor. “Those years in Spain had a massive impact on me as a musician,” he said, reflecting on the roots of his passion.

Jóia also highlighted the deep influence of Portuguese musical heritage and his admiration for neighboring cultures, particularly South Asian music. He fondly recalled being introduced to legendary Qawwali icons like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and the Sabri Brothers at the age of 15, saying, “Music from South Asia touches my heart—it is truly incredible.”

The masterclass took an interactive turn when Jóia invited attendees to join him on stage, turning the session into a celebration of shared rhythm and creativity.

Adding a special note to the event, Portuguese Ambassador to Pakistan Frederico Silva, the evening’s chief guest, surprised the audience with a heartfelt performance of his own—singing and strumming the guitar in an impromptu gesture of camaraderie.

AKCS-P CEO Tausif Khawaja praised the collaboration, calling it a “heartening success” and emphasizing the power of music to unite people across borders. “The audience turnout and engagement show how deeply cultural exchange can inspire creativity,” he said, expressing hope for more such events in the future.
