The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) has released a list of 38 Nursing Colleges operating without official recognition. Students and parents are warned not to seek admission, as degrees from these institutions will not be recognized for professional practice.
According to PNMC, 25 of the unrecognized Nursing Colleges are in Punjab, five in Islamabad, five in Sindh, and two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The council noted that delays in registration and inspections occurred due to a recent presidential ordinance restructuring PNMC operations.
Despite the presence of 755 registered nursing institutes nationwide, Pakistan faces a serious shortage of trained nurses. Many unapproved Nursing Colleges are exploiting this shortage, enrolling students without meeting proper standards.
In Islamabad, the unrecognized colleges include Capital College of Nursing and Medical Health, Edward College of Nursing, National Institute of Modern Languages and Sciences, The Institute of Health Sciences, and Unique Technical and Professional College.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has Mardan College of Nursing and The Orbit College of Nursing and Allied Sciences in Swabi. Sindh’s unrecognized colleges include Aman Institute of Health Sciences and Nursing, Media Aid School of Nursing, Prey Institute of Nursing and Health Sciences, Hyderabad College of Nursing, and Kainat Institute of Nursing.
Punjab hosts the largest number of fake Nursing Colleges, including Midcare College of Nursing (Attock), Halal Nursing and Midwifery School (Faisalabad), Punjab Nursing Academy (Jhang), and several others across Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Sialkot, and Sahiwal.
PNMC officials confirmed that many of these colleges continued admissions despite repeated warnings. Students enrolling in these institutions risk losing recognition of their qualifications and professional registration opportunities.
The council urged parents and students to verify the registration status of any Nursing Colleges before applying. Only accredited institutions are recognized for professional practice and certification.
