PMDC Updates Rules for Students Seeking Foreign Medical Colleges

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued new rules for students seeking admission in foreign medical colleges. The updated criteria aim to ensure quality education and proper registration of medical graduates in Pakistan.

According to PMDC, students must have at least 60 percent marks in FSC Pre-Medical or an equivalent examination. In addition, a minimum of 50 percent marks in the MDCAT examination conducted in Pakistan is mandatory for foreign medical education.

Students planning to study abroad must register online with PMDC according to the prescribed criteria. Only after completing online registration will students be eligible to appear in the National Registration Examination (NRE), which is required to practice medicine in Pakistan.

The council emphasized that these conditions are mandatory for obtaining temporary registration and the NRE under the PMDC Act 2022. This ensures that students meet national standards before being allowed to practice.

PMDC also highlighted that students must choose foreign medical colleges recognized by the relevant regulatory authority of the country. It is mandatory that the institution is also recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Students are advised to verify the approval status of foreign colleges through the ECFMG website before taking admission. PMDC has urged students to follow these guidelines carefully to avoid future registration issues in Pakistan.

The council also recommended that students regularly check the PMDC website for updates and detailed guidance. These steps are part of PMDC’s effort to protect students’ interests and maintain high standards in medical education.

With these measures, PMDC aims to ensure that only qualified candidates study abroad and return to Pakistan ready to contribute to the healthcare sector. The council’s action provides clarity and structure for students planning foreign medical education.
