PMD Issues Warning on Urban Flooding Ahead of Intense Monsoon Rains Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued forecasts indicating an increase in monsoon activity across several regions of the country starting today.

Initially, monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to impact Sindh and eastern Balochistan. From July 11th to 15th, these currents are projected to expand to upper and central regions of Pakistan. Azad Jammu and Kashmir should anticipate heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms from July 11th to 16th, while Islamabad and Punjab, including areas like Rawalpindi and Murree, are also preparing for significant downpours during this period.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, weather conditions will mirror those of northern areas, with rains and thunderstorms expected across multiple districts from July 11th to 15th. Conversely, Balochistan is predicted to experience predominantly hot and humid weather, with rainfall limited to its eastern parts around mid-July.

The PMD has highlighted potential risks such as urban flooding in northeastern Punjab and landslides in hilly regions like Murree, Galliyat, and AJK due to heavy rainfall. Authorities are on high alert, advising farmers, travellers, and tourists to take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of increased monsoon activity.
