ISLAMABAD — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday issued a countrywide heatwave alert, warning of dangerously high temperatures ranging from 45°C to 50°C across several regions. The alert comes amid persistent dry conditions and no immediate forecast of rainfall.
According to the advisory, the peak heat is expected between 11am and 4pm in most districts, with cities such as Lahore and Islamabad bracing for severe weather. Lahore may experience highs of up to 46°C, while the capital and its surrounding areas will continue to face intense heat and dry winds.
The plains of Punjab will be particularly affected, with strong, dusty afternoon winds likely to worsen conditions. In Sindh and Balochistan, extreme temperatures are expected to persist, especially in the plains of Balochistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also face similar weather, though light rain is forecast for its upper regions including Chitral, Dir, and Swat.

Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will not see much relief either, as no significant rainfall is predicted for these areas.
Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures, particularly vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activity during peak hours, stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and be alert to signs of heatstroke and dehydration.
Medical professionals echo these warnings, advising against unnecessary travel and encouraging the public to stay in shaded or cool areas, drink plenty of fluids, and closely monitor for symptoms of heat-related illness.
