The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted heavy monsoon rains activity across various parts of the country as strong currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal continue to penetrate southern regions. According to the forecast, widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms, accompanied by scattered heavy to very heavy falls, are likely in Sindh, particularly Mithi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, and Jamshoro. Other districts including Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, and Jacobabad may also experience scattered rainfall between August 19 and 22.
In Balochistan, districts such as Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, and Panjgur are expected to receive rain with isolated heavyfalls during the same period. Subdued rainfall is also likely in parts of Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, upper Punjab, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The Met Office cautioned that heavy downpours may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and surrounding districts, while flash floods could affect northern and southeastern Balochistan. Additionally, strong winds, lightning, and heavyfalls may damage vulnerable structures such as weak houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
