The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in Karachi on April 6, as a new weather system approaches the region.
According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is expected to enter Balochistan from Iran on April 5, which will subsequently influence weather patterns across Sindh. This system is likely to trigger thunderstorms, rainfall, and occasional hail in northern Sindh districts such as Sukkur, Kashmore, and Ghotki on April 6. Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain cautious and take necessary safety precautions during the expected storms.
This forecast comes after Karachi experienced heavy rainfall on Thursday, which led to tragic incidents resulting in at least seven fatalities and left three others injured. The recent severe weather has already highlighted the risks posed by sudden rainstorms in urban areas with inadequate drainage systems.
The PMD’s latest prediction extends beyond Karachi and northern Sindh, indicating that several other districts will also experience light to moderate rainfall. These districts include Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal. Local authorities in these districts have been urged to stay alert, monitor water-logging situations, and ensure public safety measures are in place.
Overall, the PMD has emphasized that residents of Sindh, particularly in Karachi and surrounding districts, should remain vigilant as the westerly wave brings unstable weather conditions. Light to moderate rain combined with thunderstorms and occasional hail is expected to continue across the province, with potential disruptions in daily life. Citizens are encouraged to follow official updates and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of adverse weather conditions.
