PMD Forecast: Rain, Thunderstorms and Weather Changes

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued weather forecasts warning of a mix of rain, thunderstorms and changing conditions across many parts of Pakistan over the coming days.

According to the PMD, rain and thunderstorms are expected in the northern and upper parts of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit‑Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and the Pothohar Plateau region. Some areas may also see isolated hailstorms, especially in the higher elevations. Cloudy and rainy conditions are possible in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and surrounding districts, with similar weather likely stretching into parts of Punjab including Lahore, Gujranwala and Chakwal.

Meanwhile, Sindh and Balochistan are expected to continue experiencing hot and dry weather, with most districts seeing little rainfall this week.

In Punjab, heavy early morning rain was already reported in cities like Lahore, making the weather cooler than usual and causing intermittent showers in other parts of the province.

Elsewhere, Sindh’s largest city, Karachi, is forecast to experience hot and dry conditions over the next 24 hours, with temperatures rising as the region remains under dry weather influence.

The PMD has noted that these weather patterns are due to westerly weather systems moving across the region, bringing moisture and instability to northern and central areas while leaving southern regions dry. Meteorological forecasts also caution that winds could carry dust and pollutants into western parts of the country, possibly affecting air quality temporarily.

Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with the PMD’s latest bulletins, be cautious on roads during rainfall and thunderstorms, and take necessary precautions in areas expecting hail or strong winds.
