Meetings with Government Leaders
The committee intends to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, PM Shehbaz, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Fawad Chaudhry has formally requested a meeting with the prime minister, while efforts are underway to schedule discussions with the president.
A major focus of the talks is the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail. Chaudhry stressed that meaningful negotiations are possible only if these leaders can take part in the process. Immediate efforts are being made to secure their release.
Wider Political Engagement
The NDC will also meet other political figures, including Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and Pir Pagara. Fawad Chaudhry said the goal is to build broad consensus and ensure inclusivity across all parties.
Speaking to media, Chaudhry said the committee’s efforts over the past three weeks have been “incredible.” He emphasized that dialogue is essential to reduce political tension and foster harmony.
Importance of Dialogue
Chaudhry added that both the opposition and the government have no alternative to dialogue to resolve political and economic crises. He expressed optimism that negotiations would succeed once imprisoned PTI leaders are included.
While the NDC welcomed PM Shehbaz’s renewed offer for talks, PTI rejected it, stating that meaningful dialogue requires a meeting between Imran Khan and Sohail Afridi. Meanwhile, the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Ain Pakistan has expressed readiness to engage in talks with the government.
