PM Shehbaz Urges Global Action Against Terrorism from Afghan Soil

PM Shehbaz Sharif has warned that using Afghan territory for terrorism poses a serious threat to the region and the entire world. He called on the international community to take decisive action against emerging security challenges.

The prime minister delivered these remarks at a forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, marking the 30th anniversary of the country’s policy of permanent neutrality. He congratulated Turkmenistan for completing three decades of neutrality and praised its tradition of respecting and honoring guests. Shehbaz described Ashgabat as a beautiful city, highlighting its white marble architecture and the warmth of the Turkmen people.

Terrorism on the Rise

In his address, PM Shehbaz emphasized that terrorism is resurging and Afghan soil is being exploited for militant activities. He urged global powers to pressure the Afghan Taliban regime to prevent the use of its territory for terrorism. The prime minister stressed that terrorist leaders must be stopped to ensure global peace and stability.

He warned that failure to act collectively could allow terrorism to destabilize the wider region. Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing that peaceful solutions are central to the country’s foreign policy.

Peace, Cooperation, and Humanitarian Efforts

The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s active role in the United Nations Security Council this year. He welcomed the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, calling it a chance to strengthen global cooperation. Shehbaz also stressed the need for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East and emphasized humanitarian aid, especially in conflict-hit areas such as Gaza.

Engagement with Global Leaders

During the Ashgabat forum, PM Shehbaz met world leaders including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. Earlier, he attended a ceremony at the Neutrality Monument, paying tribute to Turkmenistan’s 30 years of neutrality.
