Pakistan Cannot Achieve Progress Without Ending Sectarianism PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized on Wednesday that Pakistan cannot achieve sustainable economic growth without addressing terrorism, extremism, and sectarianism.

Speaking at the National Ulema Convention, the Prime Minister urged religious scholars to actively discourage sectarianism. He asked them to promote unity, harmony, and goodwill among all schools of thought. He stressed that fostering national cohesion is essential for the country’s stability and long-term development.

The convention was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, ministers, parliamentarians, and a large number of religious scholars representing different sects.

PM Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s recent victory in the Maarka-e-Haq (battle of truth) against India, crediting the armed forces’ professionalism, courage, and leadership. He particularly acknowledged the role of Field Marshal Asim Munir. The Prime Minister noted that all branches of the military – Army, Air Force, and Navy – contributed to this success.

He also warned that some elements are spreading propaganda against the armed forces. On the domestic security front, he said extremist groups, known as Khawarij, continue to target civilians and security personnel, highlighting the ongoing threat of terrorism and sectarianism in some areas.

Addressing the economy, PM Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is on the verge of accelerated growth. He praised the combined efforts of political and military leadership in steering the country away from economic instability and potential default. He emphasized that austerity, collective effort, and hard work are crucial to achieving the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
