Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasized his government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment and supporting startups and early-stage investors in Pakistan. He said reforms were underway to facilitate investment through better infrastructure and streamlined processes.
The PM held a meeting with a delegation from Malaysian business group Gobi Partners, led by Co-Founder and Chair Thomas G. Tsao. He highlighted that the Special Investment Facilitation Council is working to provide all possible facilities to foreign investors interested in Pakistan.
Citing potential for economic and trade cooperation, the PM said Pakistan and Malaysia are working together to strengthen bilateral business ties. He also praised the Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference, which aimed to enhance B2B relations and was addressed by both PM Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The PM appreciated Gobi Partners’ confidence in Pakistan’s startup ecosystem. He stressed that mobilizing domestic and international investment to build a sustainable startup ecosystem is a top priority for his government.
He further noted that the digital economy, including fintech, e-commerce, and IT services, is a key part of Pakistan’s national development strategy. The PM invited international business groups and investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s growing technology, IT, and AI sectors.
During the meeting, Gobi Partners expressed interest in collaborating in Pakistan’s e-commerce and financial technology sectors, highlighting the country’s potential for growth in these industries.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi, and other government representatives.
The PM’s statements underline the government’s focus on supporting startups, enhancing foreign investment, and strengthening Pakistan’s position as a business-friendly nation.
