PM Shehbaz, Iran President Vow To Boost Ties At SCO Summit

Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Peshkeshian during the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the event and focused on strengthening bilateral relations.

PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening ties with Iran. He highlighted the shared history, culture, and faith that connect the two nations. He also emphasized the importance of boosting political and economic cooperation for regional peace and development.

Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, and several federal ministers also attended the meeting. Both sides reviewed the current status of their cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the direction of their relations.

PM Shehbaz said that Pakistan is dedicated to peace and stability in the region. He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to reduce tensions and ensure long-term peace. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Iran.

In response, President Peshkeshian thanked Pakistan for its continued support. He promised to expand cooperation in various sectors. He also offered condolences over the recent floods in Pakistan and assured that Iran stands with Pakistan in this difficult time.

During the summit in Tianjin, PM Shehbaz also met several world leaders. He was warmly received by Chinese President Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan. This highlighted the close friendship between Pakistan and China.

PM Shehbaz also held meetings with leaders from Russia, Malaysia, Belarus, and Azerbaijan. He had informal talks with the presidents of Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, and the UN Secretary-General.

Officials noted that the attention PM Shehbaz received reflects Pakistan’s strong ties within the SCO and beyond. The visit marked a step forward in Pakistan’s regional diplomacy.
