Prime Minister PM Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the staff-level agreement (SLA) reached between Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). The agreement secures funding worth $1.2 billion for Pakistan.
In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz said the new agreement reflects the IMF’s confidence in Pakistan’s improving macroeconomic indicators. He noted that this development demonstrates the Fund’s trust in the government’s economic policies and reform measures.
The IMF and Pakistani authorities concluded the staff-level discussions after reviews under the country’s 37-month EFF and 28-month RSF programs. According to the IMF, the agreement still requires approval from its Executive Board. Once approved, Pakistan will receive around $1 billion under the EFF and $200 million under the RSF, increasing total disbursements to about $3.3 billion under both facilities.
PM Shehbaz praised Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Minister of State for Finance, and the Finance Secretary for their efforts in finalizing the deal. He commended their hard work and stated that the agreement is a sign that Pakistan’s economy is moving in the right direction.
The prime minister added that the government remains committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure economic stability and growth. He emphasized that Pakistan will continue implementing reforms to strengthen institutions, improve fiscal management, and attract investment.
