Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to complete PIA’s privatization by June 2025, advancing the deadline by four months to meet IMF requirements, according to Privatization Commission sources.
The Finance and Privatization Ministries, along with PIA officials, have been directed to accelerate the process. A security audit will also be conducted to help reopen US flight routes, improving PIA’s financial stability.

Consultations with the US Federal Aviation Authority are set to begin soon, with American experts expected to visit Pakistan in March or April. The IMF has emphasized that all necessary measures must be taken to finalize PIA’s privatization before July.
