Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that visas for foreign businessmen wishing to collaborate with Pakistani IT companies be issued within 24 hours. This decision, based on recommendations from the Pakistan Software Export Board, aims to attract global investors to Pakistan’s IT sector and strengthen its economic contribution.
During a review meeting on IT Ministry affairs, the Prime Minister emphasized simplifying visa processes and creating a favorable environment for foreign investment in the IT industry. He expressed satisfaction with efforts to boost IT exports to $25 billion within five years and instructed the easing of Right of Way regulations to speed up the expansion of fiber optic infrastructure and enhance broadband services across the country.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of equipping youth with IT skills aligned with global standards to increase employment opportunities abroad. Authorities informed him about plans to increase the number of freelancers from 1.4 million to 2 million within two years and to train over 300,000 individuals through the DigiSkills program by June 2025, with an additional 900,000 trainees in the following two years.
The meeting underscored the need for a robust marketing strategy to promote Pakistan’s IT sector globally. Officials updated on ongoing efforts to expand broadband coverage, improve accessibility, and enhance internet speeds. Progress on the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy was also discussed, with its approval expected next month.
