PM Shehbaz Urges Afghanistan to Rein in TTP for Lasting Regional Peace

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on Afghanistan’s interim government to take firm action against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), stressing that regional peace cannot be achieved unless cross-border militancy is curbed.

Speaking at a press briefing in Islamabad, the prime minister said Pakistan has consistently raised concerns over the presence of TTP militants operating from Afghan soil. He emphasized that such elements pose a serious threat to Pakistan’s internal stability and bilateral relations.

Shehbaz noted that Pakistan seeks a peaceful and cooperative relationship with Afghanistan, but mutual respect and security assurances are essential for long-term harmony. He added that both nations share deep cultural and economic ties that should not be undermined by terrorist groups.

The prime minister reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies are fully committed to defending the nation against terrorism. However, he urged Kabul to fulfil its responsibility in ensuring that Afghan territory is not used to launch attacks.

Diplomatic sources confirmed that Islamabad has shared credible evidence of cross-border militant movements with Afghan authorities in recent months. Pakistan continues to advocate for intelligence-sharing mechanisms and stronger border management.

Shehbaz concluded that peace in Afghanistan is directly linked to stability in Pakistan, and both countries must work together to eliminate extremism for the prosperity of the entire region.
