Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) to take immediate and practical measures to elevate Pakistan’s tourism industry, emphasizing the need for both public and private sectors to work together in facilitating international and domestic travel.
Chairing a high-level meeting on tourism development, the prime minister highlighted the country’s immense natural beauty, from snow-capped mountains to deserts and rivers, asserting that Pakistan holds vast untapped potential to earn foreign exchange through tourism. “Pakistan is in no way behind any other nation in terms of tourism potential,” he stated.

Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of encouraging local travelers to explore the country’s recreational spots and called for a strategic framework to attract long-term investment. He also emphasized branding Pakistan as a tourism destination on the global stage and urged the provinces to work in tandem with the federal government to promote sustainable tourism.
The meeting reviewed proposals aimed at unlocking the sector’s full potential, including initiatives for promoting northern areas, expanding medical tourism, and leveraging cultural and historical assets. The premier reiterated that under his vision for national development, Pakistan must rise to become one of the world’s leading tourist destinations.
The meeting was attended by key federal ministers including Attaullah Tarar, Hanif Abbasi, Amir Muqam, Aurangzeb Kitchi, as well as advisors Rana Sanaullah and Huzaifa Rehman, alongside senior officials from relevant departments.
