PM Shehbaz Announces Friday Holiday to Boost Fuel Savings

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s House to review austerity and national energy conservation measures amid regional challenges.

During the session, the prime minister announced an additional weekly holiday on Friday, aiming to reduce energy consumption and support ongoing government-saving initiatives across federal institutions.

He stressed that despite global economic pressures and regional uncertainties, the government remains committed to maintaining economic stability while ensuring efficient energy management nationwide.

A special monitoring committee led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has been formed to oversee implementation, conduct daily reviews, and submit regular progress reports to leadership.

The prime minister also directed a third-party audit to evaluate effectiveness, while ministries must submit vehicle parking evidence and work-from-home implementation reports to the Cabinet Division.

The meeting included senior cabinet members such as Mosaddiq Malik, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, and Bilal Azhar Kayani alongside senior government officials.
