PM Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Highlight Global Water Scarcity at One Water Summit
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stressed the urgent need for global collaboration to address water scarcity during their speeches at the One Water Summit. The leaders emphasized sustainable water management and highlighted the devastating impacts of drought and mismanaged water resources.
PM Shehbaz Sharif remarked, “Water shortage is the biggest issue in the world. Efforts to improve the water sector are essential.” He referenced Pakistan’s struggles with water-related disasters, particularly the destruction caused by flash floods, calling for global measures to mitigate such challenges.
The Saudi crown prince echoed these concerns, describing water issues as “severe and challenging.” He emphasized the need for international cooperation, saying, “The global community must work together to resolve the water shortage issue.” The summit also focused on strategies to secure water reserves and combat drought.

Strengthening Pakistan-Saudi Relations
On the sidelines of the summit, PM Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman met to discuss enhancing bilateral ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The crown prince expressed delight over meeting the prime minister for the fifth time in six months, noting the strong bond of mutual respect between the two nations.
The discussions revolved around advancing economic, trade, and investment relations, which both leaders recognized as critical to Pakistan’s growth and prosperity. They also reviewed progress on Saudi memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements regarding investment in Pakistan, expressing satisfaction with their implementation.
PM Shehbaz reiterated his invitation for the crown prince to visit Pakistan, which the crown prince accepted, expressing his eagerness to visit soon.
PM Shehbaz’s Commitment to Security and Law Enforcement
Before departing for Saudi Arabia, PM Shehbaz presided over a meeting in Islamabad to address recent violence in the federal capital during the visit of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
The premier vowed that no leniency would be shown towards miscreants, emphasizing the need for a strong anti-riot force that meets international standards. He also announced plans to establish a forensic lab under the Islamabad Safe City project to enhance the city’s security infrastructure.
“The extremists have harmed public buildings. The government is resolute in ensuring such incidents are not repeated,” said PM Shehbaz.
This multifaceted approach underlines Pakistan’s efforts to tackle internal security challenges while strengthening its international partnerships.
