TEHRAN – Sept 25, 2025:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday at the historic Saadabad Palace in Tehran, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering bilateral ties and advancing peace and stability in the region.
The high-level talks were part of PM Sharif’s official visit to Iran, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
During comprehensive discussions, both leaders addressed a wide array of issues, including trade, investment, counter-terrorism, regional water cooperation, and security challenges. PM Sharif described Iran as a “brotherly country” and “our second home,” expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by Iranian authorities.
“Pakistan and Iran have shared deep historical and cultural ties. Today, we are taking solid steps to elevate them further,” PM Sharif stated at a joint press conference with President Pezeshkian.
Support for Peace and Regional Stability
The two sides explored ways to enhance cooperation in commerce, energy, and security, with both leaders highlighting the need to confront terrorism and external hostile threats jointly. PM Sharif commended Iran’s constructive diplomatic efforts during recent tensions between Pakistan and India, noting that Iran helped de-escalate the situation and facilitated a ceasefire.
“Pakistan has navigated through a challenging time. We even extended an offer for an impartial investigation to our neighbour for the sake of peace,” Sharif noted.
He also briefed the Iranian leadership about India’s expansionist policies, warning that New Delhi’s actions pose a threat to regional peace. Stressing Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, he reiterated that issues like Kashmir must be addressed through dialogue under UN Security Council resolutions.
Commitment to Economic and Energy Cooperation
PM Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s desire to enhance bilateral trade, including efforts to fast-track the resolution of outstanding issues in the Pak-Iran gas pipeline project.
On humanitarian grounds, the premier voiced deep concern over the Gaza crisis, highlighting the deaths of over 50,000 Palestinians and condemning the global silence on what he called an ongoing genocide.
He also expressed full support for Iran’s right to pursue a peaceful civilian nuclear programme, affirming Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with Iran on all matters of mutual interest.
