Plane Crash in Nepal Kills at Least 18

In Kathmandu, a small plane crash has claimed the lives of at least 18 people. The aircraft, operated by Saurya Airlines, was carrying two crew members and 17 technicians to Pokhara for maintenance. According to officials, the plane skidded off the runway at Tribhuvan International Airport and crashed into a field, igniting a fire. Only the captain survived and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

The incident has brought renewed attention to Nepal’s air safety record, which has faced criticism due to previous accidents. Notable incidents include a 1992 crash involving Pakistan International Airlines that resulted in 167 deaths, and a recent crash in January 2023 involving Yeti Airlines that killed 72 people.
