Pilgrims With Severe Illnesses May Miss Hajj 2026

The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has introduced strict new health guidelines for the upcoming Hajj season, declaring that individuals suffering from serious or long-term medical conditions will not be allowed to perform the pilgrimage. The decision has been taken to safeguard pilgrims and minimize health risks during the physically demanding journey.

Under the updated advisory, people diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer, severe heart diseases, or congestive heart failure will be deemed ineligible for travel. Authorities stated that such conditions could significantly endanger the health and safety of pilgrims during Hajj.

The restrictions also apply to patients undergoing dialysis due to kidney failure, individuals with end-stage liver disease, and those battling chronic respiratory illnesses or severe lung conditions. Officials stressed that the extreme weather and physically intense rituals of Hajj may worsen these medical issues.

In addition, individuals suffering from serious neurological disorders have been barred from traveling. Pregnant women who have crossed 26 weeks of pregnancy are also restricted from undertaking the pilgrimage to avoid potential health complications.

To ensure transparency and fairness, the Ministry has issued a strong warning against the submission of fake or misleading medical certificates. Anyone found guilty of providing fraudulent documentation will face strict legal action.

Apart from health-based restrictions, all approved pilgrims must receive mandatory vaccinations against meningitis, influenza, and polio before departure. Authorities emphasized that these measures are in line with Saudi Arabia’s health regulations and international travel requirements.

Officials have urged intending pilgrims to carefully assess their medical condition and comply fully with the new guidelines to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage experience.
