PIA Logo Misused in New Cyber Scam Offering Fake Flight Discounts

A new cyber fraud case has raised concerns for travelers in Pakistan, as scammers misuse the name of Pakistan International Airlines to target victims. The incident highlights growing risks for passengers during ongoing Middle East tensions.

According to reports, a passenger was searching for international flight tickets online. During this process, she received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. The message displayed the PIA logo and claimed she had been selected for a special discount offer.

Believing the message to be genuine, she downloaded the attached file. Soon after opening it, her mobile phone was compromised. Within minutes, hackers gained access to her financial data and transferred over Rs7,000 from her Easypaisa account.

Officials say such scams are becoming more common. Cybercriminals are taking advantage of the current situation, where flight schedules are disrupted and travelers are actively searching for deals. By using trusted names like PIA, scammers make their messages appear authentic and convincing.

PIA has issued a clear warning to the public. The airline stated that it does not send promotional offers through random messages or calls. It also confirmed that it never asks passengers to share personal or financial information through unofficial channels.

Authorities explained that scammers often use a common tactic. They contact individuals and claim they applied for discounted tickets. Victims are then told to download an application or file to claim the offer. Once installed, the malware gives hackers access to sensitive data.

Experts advise passengers to remain cautious at all times. They should only use official PIA platforms for bookings and information. Any unknown links, files, or apps should be avoided.

Travelers are also urged to verify all offers directly through the airline’s official website. This can help prevent financial loss and protect personal data.
