PIA Strengthens Air Cargo Links with Garuda Indonesia Agreement

PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) has signed a cargo partnership deal with Indonesia’s flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia. The move aims to improve shipping options for Pakistani exporters and freight forwarders.

The agreement, called a Cargo Special Prorate Agreement (SPA), will provide seamless cargo connections and easier access to international markets.

Agreement Details

The SPA will take effect in January 2026 and remain active until July 2027. Pakistani export consignments will be routed through Jakarta with stops in Jeddah and Kuala Lumpur.

Under the partnership, PIA said exporters will gain access to major global cargo hubs, including Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok. This will allow Pakistani goods to reach markets in China, South Korea, and Australia more efficiently.

Benefits for Exporters

The agreement offers competitive freight pricing and priority handling for exporters and cargo agents. PIA highlighted that the SPA is part of its efforts to support Pakistan’s exports while expanding air cargo operations.

A PIA spokesperson said the deal will streamline operations and provide faster, more reliable cargo services. Exporters can now expect better connectivity and efficient handling of their shipments.

Boosting Trade Competitiveness

Officials noted that the SPA will strengthen Pakistan’s presence in international trade routes. By improving cargo efficiency, PIA hopes to increase the country’s export potential and enhance trade competitiveness globally.

The partnership also aligns with PIA’s strategy to expand its cargo footprint and provide Pakistani businesses with reliable access to international markets. Authorities believe this collaboration will benefit exporters and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s air cargo sector.
