PIA flight attendant apprehended for allegedly smuggling mobile phones

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant, Faisal Majeed, was arrested by Customs authorities at Islamabad airport upon his return from Canada for allegedly attempting to smuggle mobile phones into the country.

Incident Details:

  • Flight Information: Majeed arrived on PIA flight PK-782 from Toronto on October 24.
  • Seizure of Mobile Phones: During a search conducted by Customs officials, he was found with 16 mobile phones strapped to his body. Following this discovery, he was immediately taken into custody.
  • Visa Status: Majeed was reportedly traveling on a tourist visa and had allegedly received the smartphones shortly before his return to Islamabad.

PIA’s Response:

  • Show-Cause Notice: The management of PIA issued a show-cause notice to Majeed, demanding an explanation within three days. The airline has initiated an investigation against him, warning that failure to provide a satisfactory response could lead to his termination.
  • Reputation Concerns: PIA administration stated, “Your action has affected the reputation of the national airline, PIA.” They emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards employee misconduct, with the spokesperson confirming that any illegal actions by employees are unacceptable and will not be overlooked.
  • Custody Status: Majeed remains in the custody of Customs authorities, who are continuing their investigation into the matter.

This incident highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat smuggling and maintain the integrity of the national carrier.
