PIA Accounts Released, Relief For PIA Passengers

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]In Islamabad, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) unfroze Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) accounts on Thursday after resolving outstanding dues. The tax body had blocked the carrier’s bank accounts due to non-payment, a move coinciding with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) safety audit visit.

An FBR deputy commissioner’s notification withdrew the earlier notice, immediately detaching the airline’s accounts. The FBR emphasized that this detachment doesn’t hinder pursuing “recovery proceedings” under relevant laws.

PIA’s spokesperson Abdullah Khan confirmed the account unfreezing, stating constant communication between the national carrier and FBR’s Large Tax Unit to resolve the issue. PIA faces challenges, including fuel supply issues, with Pakistan State Oil threatening to halt supply if dues aren’t settled.

This is not the first time fuel supply has posed problems for PIA. Recently, Pakistan State Oil suspended fuel supply, causing over 300 flight cancellations or delays. The federal government plans to privatize PIA, hiring a consultant for the process, supported by Privatization Minister Fawad Hassan Fawad due to the national carrier’s multifaceted challenges.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
