Punjab Food Authority Shuts Down Popular Lahore Bakery

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a warehouse, a jam unit, and two sections of a popular bakery during operations in Lahore’s Kahna and Multan Road areas, and imposed fines of Rs 2.7 million on four food business operators.

Led by Director General M Asim Javaid, PFA teams seized and destroyed 44,000 litres of expired soybean oil, 30,000 kilograms of fungus-contaminated pickles and preserves, 400 kilograms of expired flavorings, and 3,385 kilograms of chemicals.

The bakery’s cake section and cold storage were shut down for using expired ingredients and failing to meet hygiene standards. One unit was found producing pickles and jams from spoiled fruits and vegetables, while another was distributing expired and substandard products in attractive packaging.

The crackdown followed the discovery of foul smells, unclean conditions, and violations of food safety regulations. The DG warned that consuming unsafe ingredients can cause serious stomach and intestinal illnesses, adding that the PFA will continue both routine and surprise inspections across Punjab to safeguard public health.

Citizens have been urged to report cases of food adulteration by calling the PFA helpline at 1223.
