The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) took action on Wednesday by sealing a restaurant located in Phulgran on the Murree Expressway. The restaurant was found guilty of serving expired food items and maintaining highly unhygienic conditions, putting public health at risk.
According to a spokesperson for the PFA, a team from the authority’s Murree division conducted a surprise inspection of the establishment. During the visit, officials discovered expired food products, including meat, stored and being used in food preparation. In addition to the expired items, the team noted extremely poor sanitation throughout the premises. The restaurant was also found to be stocked with red betel nuts, which further contributed to the unhygienic environment.
As a result of these violations, the restaurant was immediately sealed and a monetary penalty of Rs. 50,000 was imposed. The action was part of a broader campaign initiated under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who has instructed authorities to ensure that safe and hygienic food is provided to both tourists and residents in the Murree District.
The PFA spokesperson emphasized the authority’s commitment to strict food safety standards and urged the public to play an active role in reporting any food-related complaints. Citizens can contact the Punjab Food Authority through its Helpline at 1223.
It is worth noting that the name of the restaurant has not been disclosed by the PFA. The crackdown is part of continued efforts to protect consumer health and promote cleanliness in food business
