The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) sealed a milk outlet, arrested its owner, and imposed fines exceeding Rs. 500,000 during a crackdown on Sehri points across Lahore.
Food safety teams inspected 40 eateries in Ravi Town, Ali Town, Lahori Gate, Darbar, Lake City, and Nishtar Town. Backed by the PFA bike squad, enforcement teams conducted checks during Sehri hours to ensure food quality and hygiene compliance.
Authorities shut down a well-known lassi shop after lab tests confirmed milk adulteration. An FIR was lodged, and the owner was taken into custody. In total, 15 outlets were fined over Rs. 500,000, while 10 others received improvement notices for various violations.
Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that action was taken due to repeated violations despite prior warnings. Inspections uncovered poor storage, filthy freezers, rusty utensils, insect infestations, open drains, unhygienic washing areas, and unpleasant odors.
Several businesses also failed to keep required records and medical certificates for staff. The PFA continued monitoring vendors selling Nihari, Paya, Hareesa, and Murgh Channay during Sehri. Officials affirmed that inspections will persist throughout Ramadan to safeguard public health and enforce food safety laws.
