A significant oil and gas discovery has been announced by a leading Petroleum company at the Dhok Sultan-03 well in District Attock, Punjab. The find marks the second successful exploration in the Dhok Sultan Block (3371-15).
The block is operated with a 75% stake by the company, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 25% interest. Drilling of Dhok Sultan-03 began on January 18, 2025, reaching a depth of 5,815 meters to explore the Patala and Lockhart formations.
Testing results were promising. On a 32/64″ choke, the well produced 1,469 barrels of oil per day and 2.56 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas at 1,147 psig wellhead flowing pressure. On a 48/64″ choke, production increased to 2,113 barrels of oil per day and 4.13 MMscfd of gas at 813 psig.
Officials said this discovery highlights the untapped hydrocarbon potential of the Potwar-Kohat sub-basin. Using advanced Petroleum technologies in drilling and evaluation could unlock additional reserves, reducing Pakistan’s reliance on imported energy.
The discovery is expected to contribute to domestic energy production and save foreign exchange by decreasing the need for imported fuel. It also strengthens Pakistan’s long-term energy security and supports the development of local hydrocarbon resources.
Experts said the find demonstrates the effectiveness of modern exploration methods in the country’s key Petroleum regions. The Dhok Sultan-03 discovery is seen as a step forward for the national energy sector, boosting confidence in Pakistan’s indigenous production capabilities.
The company continues to invest in exploration and development, focusing on identifying new reserves to meet growing domestic energy demand.
