Peshawar Resumes Rs. 9.67 Billion Road Project After Seven-Year Delay

After nearly seven years of delays and administrative inaction, Peshawar’s Ring Road project has finally seen tangible progress. Construction has officially begun on the missing link between Warsak Road and Nasir Bagh Road, a development regarded as a major breakthrough for the city’s urban infrastructure.

The Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has confirmed that Phase-I of the project is now underway. This 8.7-kilometre section is being developed at a cost of Rs. 9.67 billion and includes the main dual carriageway, underpasses, bridges, and utility relocation. For smoother execution, the construction has been divided into four packages, and contracts have already been awarded. Machinery and workforce have been mobilized to begin on-site work.

The project aims to ease traffic congestion within the city, improve freight and commuter mobility, and support better urban planning and future growth. The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved Phase-I on March 3, 2025, under a non-ADP arrangement. Tenders were opened on April 23, 2025.

According to PDA Director General Naeem Khan, the chief minister has directed that construction of Phase-I be completed within six months, and full financial backing for the project has been ensured.

Phase-II of the project will focus on constructing flyovers and service roads, with an estimated cost of Rs. 9.65 billion. Phase-III will cover electrification and related infrastructure with a budget of Rs. 1.879 billion.
