Pervaiz Elahi officially becomes President of PTI.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who recently joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was named the party’s president on Tuesday.

“Ch Pervez Elahi is thus appointed as President Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf,” said a notification signed by PTI chairman Imran Khan.

The former Punjab chief minister thanked the PTI chairman for his confidence.

“I will support Imran Khan in his struggle for the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law. “The government cannot obstruct Imran’s path since he now lives in people’s hearts,” he tweeted on his official Twitter account.

Elahi formally joined the PTI last month, along with 10 former provincial assembly members, in a move that was not surprising to those who follow the Punjab political landscape.

Elahi’s announcement came after Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain fired him as Punjab president of the party and cancelled his basic membership.

Elahi told a joint news conference with PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry that he has always supported PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan through thick and thin.

“We stood solidly with Imran Khan and will continue to stand with him in the future. “We have great faith in his leadership and are grateful to him for providing us with this opportunity,” Elahi said.

Hafiz Ammar Yasir, Shujaat Nawaz, Abdullah Warraich, Bao Rizwan, Sajid Bhatti, Ahsanul Haque, Mohammad Afzal, Basma Chaudhry, and Khadija Umar Farooqui were among the previous MPAs who joined the PTI.

Elahi, 77, became Punjab’s chief minister for the second time with the PTI’s support after siding with Imran immediately before the PTI chairman’s dismissal from the prime ministership via a no-confidence resolution.

The PML-Q supported the no-trust move at the time. The PTI head, however, nominated him for the position of chief minister. Despite resistance from Chaudhry Shujaat, he was elected in July.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
