The 32-year-old cricketer shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “After careful consultation, I have taken the difficult decision to retire from international cricket. These decisions are never easy but are inevitable.”
Amir expressed confidence in the next generation of Pakistani cricketers, saying, “I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights.”
He emphasized that representing Pakistan remains the greatest honor of his life and extended his gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), his family, friends, and fans for their unwavering support.
Earlier this year, Amir had reversed his initial retirement and rejoined the national team to participate in the T20 World Cup, co-hosted by the Caribbean and the United States. However, Pakistan’s campaign ended in disappointment after losses to India and the United States in the group stage.
Amir’s illustrious career, marked by exceptional performances and controversies, leaves a lasting impact on Pakistan cricket. His retirement signals the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for the national team.
