Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced the launch of a new public transport project called the ‘People’s Train’ in Quetta. This initiative aims to provide affordable and comfortable travel for daily commuters across the city.
The ‘People’s Train’ will operate between Kuchlak and Sheikh Zayed Hospital. It is expected to serve thousands of passengers every day, helping reduce traffic on roads and saving travel time. The train will run throughout the day, offering a dependable and low-cost option for people who often struggle with limited and expensive transport.
CM Bugti said the ‘People’s Train’ will be a major relief for the public. He added that this service is part of the government’s larger plan to improve the transport system in Quetta and make it more modern and accessible. The goal is to support citizens, especially those with lower incomes, and to reduce the burden on the city’s roads.
The project is being developed in partnership with Pakistan Railways and the Department of Transport. Upgrades to existing stations and rail infrastructure are already underway.
This is not the first time Quetta has seen such a plan. A similar mass transit train project was proposed in 2017 with Chinese cooperation but was dropped in 2020 due to high costs. The current version is more practical and cost-effective.
Local residents have welcomed the announcement, calling it a much-needed step toward solving daily transport challenges in Quetta.
With work in progress, the government is expected to announce the official launch date soon. The ‘People’s Train’ promises to improve public travel and bring lasting benefits to the people of Quetta.
