Punjab PDMA Issues Advisory Ahead of Expected Heatwave
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an official advisory regarding the anticipated heatwave across the province. The directive, signed by PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, has been sent to the Local Government Department and all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab.
Key Measures for Public Safety
The advisory calls for the establishment of temporary and permanent cooling shelters in urban areas, including parks, community halls, and union council offices. It also stresses the importance of providing drinking water at markets, bus stops, and places of worship to help people stay hydrated during the intense heat.

In addition, the PDMA has ordered that public toilets and hand pumps remain operational throughout the heatwave. Metropolitan and municipal corporations have been instructed to activate their heatwave response plans to manage the situation effectively.
Coordination with Emergency Services
The advisory further directs local authorities to coordinate with WASA (Water and Sanitation Authority) and Rescue 1122 to ensure quick responses in case of emergencies. This collaboration is essential for minimizing the impact of the heatwave and ensuring public safety.
Public Awareness Campaigns
To raise awareness about the heatwave and its potential dangers, the PDMA recommends the use of loudspeakers, banners, and announcements in mosques. Local influencers, including teachers and religious leaders, should be actively involved in spreading crucial information.
Heatwave Response Representatives
As an additional measure, each union council and municipal corporation is required to appoint a designated representative specifically for heatwave-related issues. This will ensure better coordination and more efficient management of the situation at the local level.
Conclusion
With the heatwave expected to impact Punjab, the PDMA’s advisory highlights the need for comprehensive preparation and coordinated action to protect citizens. By establishing cooling shelters, ensuring the availability of water, and raising public awareness, the authorities aim to reduce the potential health risks posed by extreme temperatures during the heatwave.
