PDMA Punjab issues an alert for heavy monsoon rains and potential flash floods

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has issued an alert for an upcoming monsoon rain spell set to impact various regions across the province beginning August 25.According to the PDMA spokesperson, the rain is expected to continue until August 29, bringing widespread showers to several divisions, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur.

The PDMA has warned of potential flash flooding in the DG Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur divisions due to heavy rainfall anticipated in the mountainous areas of Koh-e-Sulaiman and the Kirthar range, which could cause significant flooding in the mountain streams. In response to these warnings, PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has urged district administrations, rescue services, civil defense, and other relevant departments to take extra precautionary measures, particularly during the upcoming chehlum of Karbala martyrs.

He also advised the public to avoid holding events on unstable rooftops and in dilapidated buildings, which could pose additional risks during the heavy rains.Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast hot and humid weather in Islamabad during the day, with the possibility of rain, wind, and thunderstorms in the evening.

Similar weather conditions are expected across various regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Balakot, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Malakand, Mardan, Peshawar, and Kohat.

Additionally, the department has predicted rainfall in several districts of Punjab, including Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, and Narowal.

In Balochistan, the weather is expected to remain predominantly hot and humid, with chances of rain in areas like Zhob, Barkhan, and nearby regions during the evening or night.

Sindh will also experience hot and humid conditions, with the possibility of rain in Mithi, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Hyderabad, Sanghar, and at isolated spots in Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Dadu, and Jamshoro.Authorities in the affected regions are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to minimize the impact of these weather conditions on local communities.
