The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh flood advisory, warning of possible urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in several parts of the province despite water levels in most major rivers remaining within normal limits.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, the water flow in the Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej rivers is currently stable, while authorities continue to closely monitor changing weather conditions and rainfall in upper catchment areas.
Most Rivers Flowing Normally
The PDMA said water levels at all barrages on the Chenab River and all headworks on the Ravi River remain within normal limits.
Similarly, the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers are flowing normally without any immediate flood threat.
However, low-level flooding has been reported in the Indus River at Kalabagh, where the inflow has reached 331,000 cusecs, while the outflow stands at 323,000 cusecs.
Authorities added that the Indus River continues to flow normally at Tarbela, Chashma, and Taunsa, and the situation in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan remains under control.
Flooding Reported in Seasonal Streams
The PDMA said low-level flooding has also been observed in Nala Aik and Baein, while Nala Palkhu near Wazirabad is currently experiencing a medium-level flood.
Officials warned that continued rainfall could increase water levels in these seasonal waterways over the coming days.
Urban Flooding Warning for Major Cities
PDMA Punjab Director General Saif Anwar Jappa said rainfall in upper catchment areas may lead to rising water levels in eastern rivers and connected streams.
He warned that several major cities, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan, could face urban flooding if heavy rainfall continues.
The authority also cautioned that Murree, Galyat, and other mountainous regions remain vulnerable to landslides due to ongoing monsoon activity.
Residents Urged to Take Precautions
The PDMA has directed people living within riverbeds and flood-prone areas to immediately relocate to safer locations as a precautionary measure.
The Punjab government has also established flood relief camps in vulnerable districts, where affected residents will receive shelter, medicines, food, and other essential services if required.
Authorities have advised the public to strictly follow official safety instructions and avoid visiting rivers, canals, streams, and seasonal waterways for recreational purposes during the ongoing monsoon season.
Parents have also been urged to closely monitor children and prevent them from swimming or playing near flowing water, as sudden surges can occur without warning.
The PDMA said it will continue monitoring the evolving weather situation and issue further alerts if conditions deteriorate.
