As cricket gears up for its long-awaited return to the Olympics after over a century, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is ramping up efforts to ensure Pakistan’s place in the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
According to Telecomasia.net, the PCB is planning a formal lobbying campaign, seeking transparency and fairness in the qualification process for the six-team men’s T20 tournament. Concerns arose after reports indicated that Pakistan, along with New Zealand, might be excluded under the proposed regional qualification format.
The LA28 Games will feature men’s and women’s T20 events from July 20–29, with only six teams in each. Based on regional quotas, likely qualifiers include India (Asia), Australia (Oceania), Great Britain (Europe), South Africa (Africa), and hosts USA — leaving one final slot potentially going to the Caribbean or another top Asian team, putting Pakistan’s chances at risk.
A PCB official confirmed growing concerns over the unclear selection criteria. “The Olympics are a landmark opportunity for cricket, and we can’t afford to be left out,” the official said. The board intends to formally write to the ICC and Olympic organizers, urging a qualification deadline after the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The PCB is pushing for either a rankings-based qualification after the 2026 World Cup or a dedicated qualifying event. Currently ranked 8th in T20Is, Pakistan still has opportunities to improve through upcoming matches and tournaments.
The PCB sees Olympic participation as vital — not just for the sport, but for national pride — and remains committed to securing Pakistan’s place in LA28
