The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has formed a new selection committee for the national men’s team after Pakistan’s poor performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Officials confirmed that former captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed have been included in the selection panel as part of a major restructuring effort. The board aims to bring experienced leadership into key decision-making roles to improve team performance.
Additionally, former Test players Aaqib Javed and Asad Shafiq will continue serving as members of the committee, ensuring continuity while adding expertise to the new setup. Their retention reflects PCB’s plan to balance experience with stability in team selection.
In a significant development, Sarfaraz Ahmed has also been appointed as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team. This new role expands his responsibilities and strengthens his involvement in shaping the future direction of the squad.
The changes come just days after former international umpire Aleem Dar resigned from the selection committee. His departure followed growing criticism over the team’s disappointing campaign in the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan’s performance in the tournament drew strong backlash from fans, former cricketers, and analysts, who demanded reforms in team management and selection strategies. The team failed to deliver consistent results, prompting calls for structural improvements.
PCB officials believe the revamped committee will improve planning, enhance accountability, and create better coordination between management and players. The board hopes the new structure will help rebuild the team and prepare it for upcoming international challenges with improved consistency and competitiveness across formats.
